In March 2003, Gillian witnessed a car accident. As the car burst in to flames, she watched helplessly as the elderly couple perished in the car consumed by flames. After witnessing this incident, Gillian went on to suffer a multitude of symptoms and was diagnosed with PTSD, Personality Disorder, Panic Disorder, General Anxiety, Agoraphobia and Depression. These conditions have kept Gillian a virtual prisoner in her own home. Gillian said if there was one thing she could do before she were to die it would be to visit the beach, as this seems an absolute impossibility. Having had 14 years of therapy to no avail, in absolute desperation, Gillian contacted The Speakmans for help.
